Each month we offer a different advanced specialty to help you enhance your diving skills.


Demo or Specialty of the Month will be udpated as soon as we are able to return to a regular schedule.

 

Specialties requiring Open Water dives will be coordinated with the Instructor during the confined water training.

You must register at the York Divers store in advance of the course.

2020 Specialty or Demo of the Month

This class can be taken by divers and non-divers alike. This class can be taken for the C.P.R. and first aid qualifications towards the rescue diver course.

The purpose of the PADI Enriched Air Specialist Course is to become familiar with diving procedures, safety protocols, hazards, risks, benefits and the theory of no-decompression diving with oxygen enriched air containing 22% - 40% oxygen.

Requirements: Open Water Diver and at least 15 years of age.

Enriched Air classes can be scheduled on an as need basis to meet the needs of the students' schedule.
Learn about the equipment you use for scuba. You will learn how your regulator works, how to care for your regulator, BC, lights, knives and all the other equipment you use. Knowing how it works and how to take care of your equipment gives you peace of mind that your equipment will last.

We will introduce you to some of the advanced equipment used for wreck diving and cold water diving as well. Come with questions about the equipment you use or may want to purchase.

Requirements: Open Water Diver and at least 10 years of age

Few skills distinguish a proficient diver as conspicuously as Underwater Navigation. Mastering Underwater Navigation has many benefits, the most compelling is the satisfaction of rising to the challenge and mastering it.

The visibility could have been better, but it's one of those dives that will stand out in your memory because of all that you have seen. Despite covering a lot of ground you and your buddy return to the anchor line, right where you knew it would be.

Contact York Diver to schedule classroom session, and three open water dives. If you completed the Advanced Open Water course, the Underwater Navigation Dive counts towards this specialty.

Requirements: Open Water Diver and at least 10 years of age

Students will need a compass and underwater slate for this course.

Project AWARE Specialty program is a nondiving program designed to familiarize divers and nondivers with the plight of aquatic ecosystems around the world. It also describes what individuals can do to help protect aquatic resources.

Registration is required for this course. Open divers and non-divers. Consists of one classroom session.

Included: Course material, Instructor fee, Certification card.

Not Included: Admission to the dive site, rental of additional equipment, airfills, and travel expenses.

Requirements: Interest in the aquatic world

Learn to use DPV to see a wider area covering more ground and faster. The DPV does much of the work for you; reducing exertion and air consumption.

Requirements: Open Water Certification and at least 12 years of age

This program program prepares you to address multiple problems at once and with confidence. It combines the knowledge and skills from the following four courses into a single approach to managing diving emergencies: Basic Life Support: CPR and First Aid, Neurological Assessment, Emergency Oxygen for Scuba Diving Injuries and First Aid for Hazardous Marine Life Injuries.

Registration is required for this course.
eLearning must be completed in full prior to the classroom and/or dives
Consists of one to two classroom sessions for a total of approximately eight hours

Included: Complete Student Kit, Instructor fee, Certification card


This course is two weeks. Tuesday August 11 and Tuesday August 18
You will discover scuba diving with a sidemount configuration, carrying your tanks at your sides instead of on your back. This can reduce drag and is more comfortable for many divers. Sidemount divers often dive with two smaller tanks that are attached in the water.

Requirements: Open Water Diver and at least 15 years of age


These dives can also be done on any of our trips... ask us how!
Learn to dive in a drysuit and go anytime, regardless of the water temperature. Warmth is more than a matter of comfort, it also affects safety. A warm diver is less likely a "bends" candidate than a cold diver.

Complete both the ReActivate program and the inwater skills and receive a certificate of completion plus a PADI replacement certification card.

We encourage everyone to participate in the ReActivate program. But if it's only been 12 months since your last dive, you would only need the pool session.  
Learning to snorkel is the first step to an underwater adventure and it can take just one easy lesson.

Classes are offered to all ages, no minimum age requirement. Individual or group classes are available.

The Project AWARE - Coral Reef Conservation Specialty course teaches you about the vital role of coral reefs in the marine environment. The course also familiarizes you with the current state of the world's coral reefs and how you can help. You will learn about the Project AWARE Foundation and:
• How coral reefs function
• Why they are so important
• Why many reefs are in serious trouble
• What you can do to prevent further decline
• Registration is required for this course

Included: Manual, DVD, Instructor fee, Certification card
Not included: Admission to the dive site, rental of equipments, airfills, and travel expenses.

This is a four hour course.
The Project AWARE - Shark Conservation Specialty course teaches you about sharks, and their feeding behavior. The course also familiarizes you with sharks habits and habitat. You will learn about the Project AWARE Foundation and:
• How Sharks are in peril, and why we
• Managing threats and recognizing values
• Identifying hazards to sharks
• Taking action and safe interaction

Registration is required for this course. Consists of one Classroom session and two Open Water dives.

Requirements: At least 12 years of age

AWARE Shark Conservation can be scheduled on an as needed basis to meet the needs of the students' schedule. These dives can be done on any of our trips... just ask us how.
The Underwater Naturalist Specialty creates awareness, evokes a sense of responsibilty and develops knowledge and familiarity with aquatic life and plants. A comparison of the land and aquatic environment illustrates how different the two envirnoments are. A brief overview of all major types of organisms which live in aquatic environments.

Registration is required for this course. Consists of one Classroom session and two Open Water dives.

Requirements: At least 10 years of age

Underwater Naturalist classes can be scheduled on an as need basis to meet the needs of the students' schedule. These dives can be done on any of our trips... just ask us how.
Learn to dive Dive from boats ranging from small inflatables to giant live-aboards :
• How they differ from place to place
• Gain experience and training from diving on boats in your local area
• Safely enter and exit the water: sometimes it’s better to hand your gear up to the crew and then climb in the boat; sometimes you just take off your fins and weights and walk up the ladder
• Stow your gear in the most appropriate areas
• Use surface lines to initiate or conclude your dives
