Scuba Training
Your adventure begins with 5 days of pool and classroom sessions over 2 weeks taking the PADI Open Water Scuba course in York, PA. You’ll learn all the required skills and safety measures to become a certified Open Water Diver. Class and pool training will be held at Northeastern High School on July 3, 5, 10, 11, 12. Each day participants will arrive by 11:30 and we will be finished by 3:30pm.

The In-Water Adventure
Get ready to jump in! The week starts with travel to Key Largo, Florida on Saturday, July 14, where the real adventure begins. After making 6 successful ocean dives on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday - July 15-17, you’ll be a PADI Certified Open Water diver.

You'll follow your first open water dives with a fun day to explore a number of land-based activities. The Museum of Diving, the Dolphin Research Center – a dolphin rescue facility - and snorkeling at John Pennekamp State Park are all within close proximity.

Now the real fun begins!
On the final two days in Key Largo, Thursday and Friday, July 19 and 20, you’ll participate in a unique PADI Coral Restoration Specialty that is only available through the Coral Restoration Foundation in Key Largo. Working hands-on with CRF staff, certification students will learn about different coral reef restoration and nursery methods. Skills will be learned on land, followed by direct application of the restoration techniques underwater at CRF reef locations. These skills will include cleaning trees, fragmenting corals, hanging corals, disease mitigation, predator control and general nursery cleanliness. While nursery work is the main focus of the certification, participants will gain an overall understanding of the restoration process. One of the days will include a visit to a reef for coral monitoring or for coral outplanting, depending on the weather conditions. There will be two afternoon dives each day.

In addition to coral reef conservation work, divers in Key Largo have seen sea turtles, eels, lobsters, assorted rays, wrecks, schools of colorful fish… and sharks.

You’ll return home on Saturday, July 21. You’ll come away from this adventure as a certified scuba diver with your first 10 ocean dives, an understanding of the impact coral reefs have on our planet, a new set of dive buddies… and an early life learning adventure you’ll never forget!

Participation is limited to 10 students… Sign up today!
